Education
-
2020 - 2024 PhD (summa cum laude)
Technical University Munich, Freising, Germany - I used vegetation models and robust multi-criteria optimization to develop strategies for climate-smart forestry under uncertainty. Namely, forests should help mitigate climate change, and provide numerous ecosystem services (e.g., timber provision, local climate regulation, or habitat provision), while they also need to be adapted to withstand global change.
- Thesis title: European forests and the land sector under climate change: Strategies for mitigation, adaptation, and ecosystem service provision
-
2012 - 2014 Master's degree
University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany - Major: Mathematics
- Minor: Computer Science
- Thesis title: A machine learning algorithm for the detection of Cuneiform script
-
2008 - 2012 Bachelor's degree
University of California, Berkeley, USA, and Technical University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany - Major: Mathematics
- Minor: Economics
- Thesis title: Three random graph models and their applications
Experience
-
2024 - now PostDoc
Technical University Munich, Freising, Germany - I am currently continuing my research at TUM concerning the development of land-use strategies under climate change.
-
2014 - 2020 (Senior) Software Developer
TNG Technology Consulting - Project at global insurance company.
- Set-up of a highly resilient big data platform to compute the company's value-at-risk
- Frameworks used: Docker, Kubernetes, Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Spring Boot, Azure
- Project at a global telecommunications company.
- Designed, implemented and tested a data streaming platform dealing with over 6 billion data records per day.
- Frameworks used: Apache Flink, Apache Kafka, Hadoop, OracleDB, Ansible, terraform, AWS
- Project at global insurance company.
-
2022 Visiting Scientist
University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA - I spent two months visiting the Keenan group at UC Berkeley, profiting from their experience using FLUXNET data and data analysis in general.

-
Climate change mitigation, climate-smart land use under uncertainty
- How can we improve the mitigation potential of ecosystems while adapting them to global change and sustaining ecosystem service provision, all under the wide uncertainty of climate change projections?
-
Ecosystem services
- Global ecosystems provide numerous ecosystem services to humankind yet they are often optimized for single services (e.g., forestry is often solely aimed at maximizing timber provision). However, ecosystems should be managed taking all these services into account"
